Andrei Duta » Religion http://andreiduta.com Mon, 25 Jan 2021 07:31:08 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.1.41 Billy Graham and Einstein http://andreiduta.com/billy-graham-and-einstein/ http://andreiduta.com/billy-graham-and-einstein/#comments Sat, 26 Jul 2014 19:25:51 +0000 http://andreiduta.com/?p=413

Billy Graham is now 94 years-old, and has Parkinson’s disease.

In January, leaders in Charlotte, North Carolina, invited their favorite son, Billy Graham, to a luncheon in his honor.

Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation because he struggles with Parkinson’s disease. But the Charlotte leaders said, ‘We don’t expect a major address. Just come and let us honor you.’ so he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham stepped to the rostrum, looked at the crowd, and said: “I’m reminded today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who this month has been honored by Time magazine as the Man of the Century. Einstein was once traveling from Princeton on a train, when the conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger. When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket. He couldn’t find his ticket, so he reached in his trouser pockets.

It wasn’t there. He looked in his briefcase but couldn’t find it. Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn’t find it.

“The conductor said, ‘Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. We all know who you are. I’m sure you bought a ticket. Don’t worry about it.’
“Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to move to the next car, he turned around and saw the great physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his seat for his ticket.

“The conductor rushed back and said, ‘Dr. Einstein, Dr. Einstein, don’t worry, I know who you are; no problem. You don’t need a ticket. I’m sure you bought one.’

Einstein looked at him and said, “Young man, I too, know who I am. What I don’t know is where I’m going.”

Having said that Billy Graham continued, “See the suit I’m wearing? It’s a brand new suit. My children, and my grandchildren are telling me I’ve gotten a little slovenly in my old age. I used to be a bit more fastidious. So I went out and bought a new suit for this luncheon and one more occasion. You know what that occasion is? This is the suit in which I’ll be buried. But when you hear I’m dead, I don’t want you to immediately remember the suit I’m wearing I want you to remember this: “I not only know who I am. I also know where I’m going.” May your troubles be less, your blessings more, and may nothing but happiness come through your door. “Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil – it has no point.”

– Author Unknown

Amen & Peace, my friends

And may each of us have lived our lives so that when our ticket is punched we don’t have to worry about where we are going.

Jesus Calling http://andreiduta.com/jesus-calling/ http://andreiduta.com/jesus-calling/#comments Mon, 24 Feb 2014 12:00:53 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=196 Give yourself fully to the adventure of today. Walk boldly along the path of Life, relying on your ever-present Companion. You have every reason to be confident, because My Presence accompanies you all the days of your life—and onward into eternity.

Do not give in to fear or worry, those robbers of abundant living. Trust Me enough to face problems as they come, rather than trying to anticipate them. Fix your eyes on Me, the Author and Perfecter of your faith, and many difficulties on the road ahead will vanish before you reach them. Whenever you start to feel afraid, remember that I am holding you by your right hand. Nothing can separate you from My Presence!

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
—Hebrews 12:2

“For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

“Streams in the Desert” Devotional http://andreiduta.com/streams-in-the-desert-devotional/ http://andreiduta.com/streams-in-the-desert-devotional/#comments Tue, 03 Dec 2013 17:13:55 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=125 Because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will . . . make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky . . . because you have obeyed me. (Genesis 22:16–18)

From the time of Abraham, people have been learning that when they obey God’s voice and surrender to Him whatever they hold most precious, He multiplies it thousands of times. Abraham gave up his one and only son at the Lord’s command, and in doing so, all his desires and dreams for Isaac’s life, as well as his own hope for a notable heritage, disappeared. Yet God restored Isaac to his father, and Abraham’s family became “as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore” (v. 17). And through his descendants,”when the time had fully come, God sent his Son” (Gal 4:4).

This is exactly how God deals with every child of His when we truly sacrifice. We surrender everything we own and accept poverty—then He sends wealth. We leave a growing area of ministry at His command—then He provides one better than we had ever dreamed. We surrender all our cherished hopes and die to self — then He sends overflowing joy and His “life . . . that [we] might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10 quoted from KJV).

The greatest gift of all was Jesus Christ Himself, and we can never fully comprehend the enormity of His sacrifice. Abraham, as the earthly father of the family of Christ, had to begin by surrendering himself and his only son, just as our heavenly Father sacrificed His only Son, Jesus. We could never have come to enjoy the privileges and joys as members of God’s family through any other way.

We sometimes seem to forget that what God takes from us, He takes with fire, and that the only road to a life of resurrection and ascension power leads us first to Gethsemane, the cross, and the tomb.

Dear soul, do you believe that Abraham’s experience was unique and isolated? It is only an example and a pattern of how God deals with those who are prepared to obey Him whatever the cost.”After waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised” (Heb 6:15), and so will you. The moment of your greatest sacrifice will also be the precise moment of your greatest and most miraculous blessing. God’s river, which never runs dry, will overflow its banks, bringing you a flood of wealth and grace.

Indeed, there is nothing God will not do for those who will dare to step out in faith onto what appears to be only a mist. As they take their first step, they will find a rock beneath their feet. F. B. Meyer

Spiritual Warfare and Sin: Victory Assured http://andreiduta.com/spiritual-warfare-and-sin-victory-assured/ http://andreiduta.com/spiritual-warfare-and-sin-victory-assured/#comments Tue, 03 Dec 2013 17:07:20 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=123 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.—Genesis 32:24-25

The enemy never quite knows how to deal with a humble man; he is so used to dealing with proud, stubborn people that a meek man upsets his timetable. And furthermore, the man of true humility has God fighting on his side—who can win against God?

Strange as it may seem we often win over our enemies only after we have first been soundly defeated by the Lord Himself. God often conquers our enemies by conquering us…. When God foresees that we must meet a deadly opponent, he assures our victory by bringing us down in humbleness at His own feet. After that, everything is easy. We have put ourselves in a position where God can fight for us, and in a situation like that, the outcome is decided from eternity. We Travel an Appointed Way, 14.

“Lord, help me to submit willingly to You, in complete humility, without struggle or wrestling. Then You fight for me against my strong enemy. I’ll rest-and revel-today in Your victory. Amen.”

The Nicene Creed http://andreiduta.com/the-nicene-creed/ http://andreiduta.com/the-nicene-creed/#comments Tue, 03 Sep 2013 15:52:13 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=99 I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Wisdom http://andreiduta.com/wisdom/ http://andreiduta.com/wisdom/#comments Tue, 03 Sep 2013 14:37:20 +0000 http://andreiduta.com/?p=79 This is a rebroadcast from my friend Bernie.

Wisdom by Bernie James

When Solomon met God face-to-face in a dream shortly after becoming king, he had the opportunity to have any wish granted. His wish was for “an understanding mind”–the ability to discern right choices. This wisdom is mine today.

I thank God that His Spirit guards the gate to my heart, mind, and mouth. I have the capacity for wisdom and perspective – choosing correctly the thoughts of the mind, the words of the mouth, the actions of the body. Through prayer and meditation I enjoy wisdom in choices small and profound.

Wise and prepared, I make right choices.

— “Give your servant therefore an understanding mind.”— 1 Kings 3:9.

— “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Matthew 7:8.

— “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” – James 3:13.

Powerful Devotional http://andreiduta.com/powerful-devotional/ http://andreiduta.com/powerful-devotional/#comments Tue, 03 Sep 2013 14:20:10 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=97 Earlier this morning, I came across a powerful devotional on Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. It is worth the rebroadcast on my personal blog. I hope it inspires all readers.

Blessings, Andrei Duta

August 29

Demonstrate your trust in Me by sitting quietly in My Presence. Put aside all that is waiting to be done, and refuse to worry about anything. This sacred time together strengthens you and prepares you to face whatever the day will bring. By waiting with Me before you begin the day’s activities, you proclaim the reality of My living Presence. This act of faith—waiting before working—is noted in the spirit world, where your demonstration of trust weakens principalities and powers of darkness.

The most effective way to resist evil is to draw near Me. When you need to take action, I will guide you clearly through My Spirit and My Word. The world is so complex and overstimulating that you can easily lose your sense of direction. Doing countless unnecessary activities will dissipate your energy. When you spend time with Me, I restore your sense of direction. As you look to Me for guidance, I enable you to do less but accomplish more.

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear… Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

—Luke 12:22–25

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

—Ephesians 6:12

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

—Proverbs 16:3

Mercy http://andreiduta.com/mercy/ http://andreiduta.com/mercy/#comments Wed, 21 Aug 2013 15:37:58 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=82 I recently received this devotional below penned by Bernie James, a dear brother in Christ and friend. I find his message a powerful and inspirational reminder of what it truly means to be a follower of Christ.

Mercy

Andrei DutaI must have mercy on those who have offended me. But I am wired to hold a grudge – to forgive but not to forget. Worse yet, the memory of the offense controls my thinking and behavior. So, how do I have mercy?

I need only remember how many times I have offended Jesus – only to receive cleansing and forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a cross, one that I must carry as I follow Jesus. Hanging on the cross is my pride – the true enemy of mercy, not the person who has offended me.

Jesus calls me to walk in a holy way – to a life abundant and free. Mercy is the price of this freedom.

— “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” – Matthew 5: 7.

— “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1: 8-9.

–“If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.” – Matthew 12:7.

Affirmation During Challenging Times http://andreiduta.com/affirmation-during-challenging-times/ http://andreiduta.com/affirmation-during-challenging-times/#comments Thu, 27 Jun 2013 21:43:11 +0000 http://andreiduta.org/?p=49 Q: Dear Andrei,

Is there a scripture or a Bible story that provides greater affirmation for you during challenging times? I’ve been traversing a dark valley during this recent season and my heart is heavy. — John

A: Dear John,

We all, every single one of us, experience darker valleys at different times in our lives. Don’t lose hope. Persevere.

There are many scriptures in the Bible that provide consolation, inspiration, and affirmation. You could say that the entire Bible is one macro narrative that is divinely authored to precisely encourage and affirm those who believe in God. I have been pointed to Psalm 91 on several occasions during some challenging times in my life.

I pray that God’s words and promises as channeled through Psalm 91 will lift your spirit up. It was written for you too. Keep on keeping on.Tomorrow will be better. There is a mountain peak after this valley. Take courage and see with the eyes of faith.

Blessings and all the best, Andrei

PSALM 91 (NIV)

1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
